Variations of Basketball

While basketball is a highly regulated sport, there are many variations of the game that have evolved over the years. Some of these games include “H-O-R-S-E,” in which two or more players attempt to match each other’s shots at a basket. The game’s origins can be traced back to a Canadian named James Naismith.

The game’s history dates to 1891, when James Naismith invented the game to use indoors at the Springfield YMCA. The original version of the game used a soccer ball and peach baskets as goals. As the game grew in popularity, it spread to colleges and professional leagues. In 1936, the game was adopted as an Olympic sport. Today, the NBA is one of the world’s most popular sports leagues.
