Association football, commonly referred to as football association, is a common team sport played between a spherical ball and two teams of eleven players each. It is the most popular sport in the world, with over 250 million people playing it in more than 200 countries and dependent regions. The game is predominantly played in a rectangular shaped field, but some games are played in a diamond field or a rectangular area. This sport is a rough and tough sport and is not suitable for children below 10 years of age.
As football is a rough game, physical contact is minimal and players wear standard protective clothing like jerseys, socks and shoes. There are different playing rules depending on the kind of football being played. In the United States of America, the National Football League or the NFL is the governing body of football. Each team has a starting quarterback who acts as the team captain. The football field is divided into five sections, the trenches which are located along the side of the field are the other sections. A sixty-yard line is the playing field.
Each team has a starting offense consisting of ten men including the goalkeeper. The football field is divided again into three sections, the trenches where the offense takes place, the center of the field is where the defense takes place, and the end zone is the place for the goal. The opposing teams consist of eleven players each, with five players on each team’s bench. The football goal consists of a thirty-yard-line with the goal post located at the forty-yard-line.
The football rules are simple, with only a few exceptions. Unlike tennis or American football, in football only two teams are usually allowed to play. Two teams play each other in a regular season game, a championship game and a national championship game. The championship game is played between the winning team and the second highest scoring team.
There is no doubt that football is the most popular sport in the world today. There are over 650 different countries where football is the number one sport. In America alone, there are football leagues in all the major cities. So how did football evolve from what was originally a country sport to what it is today? Well, it began when the English began playing the game and started incorporating some of the rules of the game from rugby and football.
The football rules began to become more similar to rugby and baseball when professional football became a professional sport in the USA. The only thing that was different was that football did not have a centralized stadium where the game was played. The game was played at different places with different ball types, with different rules. Football became very popular in America and in 18ged it’s first season in the NFL, football viewership hit the record books. Today, football continues to be a popular sport for Americans and is in fact, the most popular sport in the country!
