Association football, commonly referred to as just football as well, is an outdoor team sport usually played between two groups of eleven players. It is the most popular sport in the world and most people can identify the game. It is played regularly around the globe and is one of the most watched sports in history. It has been played in different countries since the early 19th century, when it was brought to the public’s attention by the English football team West Ham.

To play football, the ball must be passed on both sides of the field using passing and kicking. A forward passes the ball through a net or tries to touch the end line while a backward passes the ball backward using his feet. The object of the game is for the team to score more points than the other team. On offense, the offense consists of passing, receiving, kicking and running. The defense is made up of four defensive players who try to stop the offense before the ball is touched. There are different types of offensive schemes in football; the usual offense consists of a receiver to catch the ball, a running back to carry the ball and a quarterback to pass.

On the defensive, the aim of the team is to prevent the opposing team from gaining a score by scoring a touchdown with the ball or using any illegal methods. A penalty is charged to any player who deliberately tries to kick the ball over the goal line or dives or throws. Normally, there are three phases to a football game; starting with the offense, running back or catching, and then the defense.

Each team has eleven players on the field, but some games use two teams instead. During the match play, the football goals are located at the ends of the pitch. The offence tries to score before the defense can win the ball through a tackle or a kick. The teams take turns being on offense or defense throughout the entire game.

At the beginning of the game, the offense starts with the ball and runs with it around the field. When it gets to the other team’s goal line, the offense then does its thing, usually through the run but sometimes through the catch as well. The offensive line does most of the work because the tackles and the yards after the first down are their main responsibilities. Aside from the offensive line, the secondary plays an important role in the defensive scheme of the football; the secondary protects the wide receivers and the quarterback.

In order for the offense to have a good chance of scoring a touchdown, the play has to be organized and precise. It starts with the offensive line playing the ball and preventing the opposing team from getting down to the punting position. When this happens, the running back takes over and carries the football down the field. When the defense is ready to defend the goal, the four downs ten yards line is entered and the football team must move into their end zone for a score.
